Domaine La Borderie was formed when Jean-Louis and Odile Normand married and combined parcels of vines from both families in the southernmost part of the Côte des Bars, the Aube department. Now, two of their five children continue the work of the domaine, including a heightened focus on land stewardship. Simon Normand began his training in 2008, working for the cooperative to which his parents sold grapes, after which he went to work for Bouchard Père et Fils in Beaune for three years, followed by a short stint at Domaine Fleury, a Champagne producer also located in the Aube. Marie started her career in early childhood education before transitioning back to the family vineyards. Together, the two focus on protecting the biodiversity and health of the 11 hectares of vineyards and surrounding environment, in part by planting over 1300 trees and never using herbicides or insecticides. Their continuing efforts focus on limiting the impact on the land with careful water resource and energy management, highlighted by their participation in the Haute Valeur Environmententale and Viticulture Durable en Champagne.
